2009 SOLAR DECATHLON – 1ST PLACE IN ARCHITECTURE
For three weeks in October 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy hosted the Solar Decathlon—a competition in which 20 teams of college and university students competed to design, build and operate the most attractive, effective and energy-efficient solar-powered house. Team California is composed of over a hundred students from California College of the Arts (design and architecture) and Santa Clara University (engineering). Studio 18’s contribution included architectural design, interior design and lighting, communication and general project coordination between the different schools and consultants. Our Refract House entry won first place in the architecture contest, beating out 19 other university teams and placed third place in the overall competition. We attribute this achievement to the remarkable commitment, dedication and ingenuity of our team. It was an honor to be a part of this unique experience. Check out the links below:
