LOS OLIVOS – LIMA, PERU
STUDIO 18
We worked closely with a couple to design their residence in Los Olivos district in Lima, Peru. The site faces an open green space with no front neighbor, which presents the opportunity to fuse the interior space with the park. In order to connect with the outdoors the volume was divided into linear tubes that reach outward, while also organizing the program of the house. The owners wanted a design that cleverly arranged public and private spaces without having to subdivide the space into monotonous boxes.
We proposed an open floor plan, transparent glazing and movable walls for the public areas on the first floor. Here a large living-dining-kitchen space with a front deck and a bbq area allow for entertaining and socializing. The small office can open as a lobby or party room also. On the second floor more intimate spaces include a guest room and four bedrooms. Different degrees of reflectivity are used to achieve privacy without bulky separation walls. Finally, the use of stone tiles help reduce upkeep on painted surfaces, and offer a more natural feel and connection with the outdoors.
